Though it is true that when it comes to losing weight it is important to keep an eye on the amount of calories you consume daily, research shows that a protein-rich diet may help you lose weight better than other diets.
What is so special about protein?
No one is exactly sure why high protein consumption and weight loss are so, well, “friendly” – and while there are a number of hypotheses about why high-protein diets seem more efficient at shedding pounds – we are still waiting for solid facts.
However, a new study out of UK seems to confirm what many experts have suspected all along, i.e., – protein promotes satiety. Protein activates a hunger-suppressing hormone, which may prolong a feeling of fullness after a meal.
So how much protein do you need to lose weight? Keep in mind that individual factors play a role in the rate at which you can lose weight, but according to the study’s authors, upping your protein intake to about 30 percent of your diet may help you eat a third less food.
