Hi, I’m pretty short (5’3) and weigh around 132. My goal is to weigh around 115 and fit into my old jeans (size 4). I’m concentrating on light weight lifting and running/walking and eating lots of fruits and vegetables throughout the day.
How long would it take to lose 17 pounds and how many times a week do you recommend exercising? Thanks. [via Ask Questions]
How long it takes to lose 17 pounds Assuming you lose 2 pounds a week – which is generally considered a safe and sustainable rate of weight loss – it should take 8.5 weeks to lose 17 pounds.
Keep in mind that some people can lose weight faster while others lose weight slower, so you do not need to worry if you are unable to lose 2 pounds a week or if you lose more than 2 ponds a week.
In addition, sometimes people lose more weight in the beginning, say, 3 or 4 pounds a week for the first 2 to 4 weeks, but as they get closer to their weight-loss goal, the rate of weight loss slows down and it becomes a little harder to lose the few remaining pounds.
Your diet Eating lots of fruit and vegetables is good, but do not forget about protein and healthy fats.
How many times a week to exercise Lift weight 3 times a week, for example on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Skip running for now; walk on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for 30 to 45 minutes. Walk with enough intensity to break sweat. If by the end of your walk you are sweating profusely, out of breath and feel weak, you are overdoing it and you need to either walk less time or with less intensity.
