High HDL

Do you have high HDL levels? I do. Should I be worried about my high HDL levels? Forget about me, what about you, should you be worried about your high HDL levels? It sounds counterintuitive, but it turns out that a high HDL level is actually a good thing. Why would high HDL levels be good for you? Here is the deal:
For years the advice has been to lower your LDL, or “bad,” cholesterol. But having high HDL may play an equally important role in protecting your heart – and brain.
According to a study in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, women with low HDL levels (40 mg/dL or less) were 27 percent more likely to score poorly on a memory test then those with healthy levels (60 mg/dL or higher).
Low HDL may damage your brain’s blood vessels and lead to memory loss, say researchers. To raise your number, make sure to consume a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and maybe some fermented soy products. [source: Shape]
