Healthy Diet: What to Eat and Why
Apples. An apple a day really may keep the doctor away. The pectin in apples may lower your cholesterol levels and help stabilize your blood sugar.
Bananas are rich in potassium and very low in sodium, which may help prevent high blood pressure.
Bananas are one of our best sources of potassium, an essential mineral for maintaining normal blood pressure and heart function.
Mangoes may help reduce the risk of some cancers. Mangoes are among the best sources of cancer-fighting carotenoids. They are also rich in fiber and antioxidant vitamins C and E.
Pears may lower your cholesterol level and help stabilize your blood sugar. Pears are a low glycemic index food and a good source of vitamin C, potassium and natural dietary fiber. They contain pectin, a type of soluble fiber, which may lower cholesterol and help stabilize your blood sugar.
Pomegranates may help prevent the progression of coronary heart disease. Pomegranates are loaded with phytochemicals that may help prevent and even reverse the progression of coronary heart disease.
They may also help prevent prostate cancer by reducing DNA damage. The same benefits are available in pomegranate juice.
Raisins may help prevent coronary heart disease. Grapes (whether as grapes, dried as raisins, or fermented in wine and consumed in moderation) contain antioxidants called polyphenols that help prevent coronary heart disease.
Strawberries may help reduce the risk for diabetes and circulatory problems. Strawberries are filled with phytochemicals that may reduce the risk for diabetes and circulatory problems.
They also contain phenols that may lower your risk of cancer and heart disease.
Tangerines may help reduce the risk of some cancers. Tangerines are richer in vitamin C than many oranges and are easier to digest.
Vitamin C is the primary water-soluble antioxidant in the body and plays an important role in cancer prevention, healthy blood circulation and wound healing. [source: A guide to food nutrition by Dean Ornish, M.D.]

Great post! And perfect timing, because I just finished my apple slices. :] Mangoes and pomegranates are two of my absolute favorites, so it’s good to hear that my tastebuds have me on the right track.
