Healthy Chocolate
No, you’re not dreaming, chocolate really is healthy. Of course, the caveat is that it needs to be in moderation, and the darker the better.
The Journal of Nutrition recently published a German study that found women who consumed a daily cup of cocoa high in flavanois, a subclass of the plant-based antioxidant flavonoid, saw many skin improvements within 12 weeks compared to the control group.
After three months, the women who drank the high flavanois beverage saw a 25 percent reduction in skin redness, a 30 percent reduction in roughness and a 42 percent reduction in scaliness.
Additionally, their skin had double the blood flow, was 16 percent denser, 13 percent more moist and 11 percent thicker. Scientists speculate the results are due to the flavanois ability to absorb UV light and ability to inhibit the inflammation process. Flavanois are also a known antioxidant.
To get the equivalent flavanois, you would need to consume three ounces of dark chocolate, but, of course, this may not be compatible with some diets. [source: Your Health]
