Healthy Body Fat Percentage

What is a healthy body fat percentage? Do you know? Despite living in a scale-conscious culture, many adults still wonder what exactly is a healthy body fat percentage? And is a lower weight the most important goal when you are trying to be healthy?
Researchers and clinicians used to think that how much you weighed was a good predictor of your health. Recently, however, we have learned that other factors – such as body fat and where it is located – tell us more about our health.
To determine your risk for developing a chronic health problem, use these three measurements, either separately or in combination:
1. Body mass index (BMI) is the most widely used. It measures total body fat.
2. Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) measures the proportion of fat stored on your waist, hips, and buttocks.
3. Waist circumference (WC) tells you how much fat you carry around your abdomen. [source: Health Monitor]
