Health MythsHats and Hair Loss

Members of the military and Major League Baseball players have nothing to worry about. There has been no evidence that wearing a hat will cause you to go bald.

It’s believed that the myth may have started because many men who are losing their hair wear hats to hide the fact.

Experts agree that hair loss in men is most commonly due to “male-pattern baldness,” which is a result of age, genetics and hormonal changes.

Flex to Flab

This health myth is like “comparing apples to oranges.” Muscle and fat are two different types of tissue and it’s impossible for one to turn into the other.

After you stop working out for a long period of time, muscle tissue shrinks and becomes soft, while the body begins storing the extra calories not being burned off during exercise as fat.

“Oftentimes when people stop exercising, they keep eating the same amount of calories,” says Amanda Carlson, director of nutrition and research at Athletes Performance.

“This shift in ‘energy in’ versus ‘energy out’ makes the accumulation of fat occur even faster.” [source: Your Health]
