Gym Survival Guide
Whatever your gym-related question, The Gym Survival Guide will probably answer it. Authors Gregg Cook (a certified personal trainer) and Fatima d’Almeida-Cook share countless tips for finding a gym, looking like a pro, and staying motivated. Here is a little preview:
When joining a gym…you will often get the best deal at the end of the month, when salespeople are pressed to meet quotas. Before committing, visit the club on a Monday, typically the busiest day, to see how long you have to wait for equipment.
To find a trainer…interview her or him and ask for references. At the very least, ask three questions before you write a check: Why are you a trainer? What are your qualifications? How long have you been in the business?
To stay motivated…write down three to five positive affirmations (such as “I’m stronger than ever”) before your workout and repeat them while you exercise. The more inspiring the mantra, the more effective it will be. [source: Shape]
