Grapefruit Diet: New Grapefruit Diet Is Back
The Grapefruit Diet remains one of the most popular diets out there. A recent poll revealed that The Grapefruit Diet and The New Grapefruit Diet consistently rank among the top 20 diets of this and previous years.
One has to wonder if a grapefruit could be a secret weight loss weapon. It certainly can be. There is just nothing secretive about it. Just like any other fruit, a grapefruit, is a low calorie food.
If, as the original Grapefruit Diet prescribed, you live on about 800 calories, grapefruit or not, you could lose weight. So back in the days, The Grapefruit Diet was dismissed as just another fad diet.
The New Grapefruit Diet claims to have a scientific research behind it. The study, conducted at Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center at Scripps Clinic in San Diego, proved that on one hot, sunny day, you could lose more weight than by eating a grapefruit for 12 weeks.
Does “Hot Sunny Day Diet” exist? No? Maybe I should write a book about it.
Seriously, this study is another example of what I call “grasping for straws” study. The result of it is virtually the same as in Tonalin CLA and Oily Fish for weight loss studies.
The participants ate half a grapefruit with each meal, on average, they lost 0.3 pounds a week, or 3.6 pounds in 12 weeks. If this is all it takes to jump-start people eating fruits, I am all for it.
I wish they did more studies like this with a variety of fruits and vegetables. I bet the results would be nearly identical.
