Good Calories, Bad Calories: Gary Taubes

Good Calories, Bad Calories: Gary TaubesRemember Gary Taubes who wrote a very revealing article “What if It’s All a Big Fat Lie?” – which was published in New York Times?

If you have not read it, it is a must read, really. But he did not stop there, Taubes spent five years combing research and interviewing diet experts.

His conclusion, shared in his controversial new book, Good Calories, Bad Calories -
“All the conventional wisdom about healthy eating is wrong.” Fighting words, so let him explain:

Which calories are good and which are bad? Good calories are protein and fat, not necessarily one more than the other. Bad calories are carbs. Carbs regulate insulin levels, and insulin increases fat accumulation.

Sounds like the Atkins diet It’s not a new message; all I do is investigate the science. The evidence is unambiguous.

Is exercise healthy? Exercise makes you hungry. I don’t think it makes you leaner, and I’m not sure it makes you healthier.

What’s your diet like? Eggs and sausage for breakfast, a hamburger without the bun for lunch … give up carbs and you lose weight effortlessly. It’s weird. [via: People]
