A simple way to remember? Fill one third of a moderately sized plate with low-fat protein and two-thirds with fruits and vegetables (Salad dressing and butter should not exceed the size of a thumb.)

While the plan doesn’t eliminate any food group, it does discourage eating anything with a high fat or carb content such as grains, starches and pastas. Fruits and veggies are good carbs, and monounsaturated fats (like olive oil, almonds and avocados) are ideal.
