If you have not seen TLC’s Freaky Eaters yet, you do not know what you are missing. Freaky Eaters is very entertaining and educational, but can it help you lose 25 pounds in 2 weeks? And what if you want to lose even more weight, say, you are desperate to lose 50 pounds in a month – can Freaky Eaters help you do something like this? As much as I want to say yes, I am afraid the answer is no. Freaky Eaters is a cool show, but when it comes to losing weight, there are better TV shows out there.

Having said that, nutrition expert J.J. Virgin (yes, she is one of the hosts on Freaky Eaters) does know what it takes to lose weight and how to make better food choices. Here are her diet and weight loss tips.

Burgers and fries According to J.J. Virgin, a cheeseburger and fries can be described as “a mass of fat.” Why? Because the combo can pack around 1,000 calories. Turkey burger and baked potatoes is a much better option. “Or make your burger topless and save 75 to 100 calories,” she says.

Fried chicken “When you deep-fry chicken, you turn a healthy protein choice into a fat bomb,” she says. Grilled chicken breast is the way to go.

Guacamole and chips Virgin says that eating guacamole on high-carb, high-fat, high-salt chips is a recipe for binging, because it acts as a “trigger” to consume a lot more calories than you need. “Instead, mix it up: half guacamole and half salsa to reduce the calories. And team it with crunchy, fresh veggies instead of chips,” she says.

Ice cream sundae “Ice cream is definitely addictive. It contains as 300 calories per cup of mainly fat and sugar. Go out for some fro-yo. Stick with a small size and satisfy that craving with only 100 calories,” she says. [via]
