Fat Burning Zone and Heart Rate

Fat Burning Zone and Heart RateThe “fat-burning zone” on most treadmills means a long, slow slog to nowhere.

Sure, you’ll burn fat, but if you push your effort level beyond this zone, you’ll burn more total calories and torch as much fat in the same amount of time.

Bonus: “Pushing it a little harder will signal your body to use more fat for energy after you exercise,” says Jeff Volek, Ph.D., R.D., an exercise scientist at the University of Connecticut.

Maintain an intensity that allows you to talk only in short spurts of three or four words at a time. [source: Men's Health]
