Fat Burning Soup
Has the fat-burning soup been finally developed? Okay, it is not a fat-burning soup, but a low-calorie beverage containing a “soup” of ingredients: green-tea antioxidants, caffeine, and calcium – which a new study says boosts metabolism.
While following a prescribed diet, 31 healthy-weight volunteers drank three 12-ounce cans of Enviga (made by Nestle and Coca-Cola) or a low-calorie placebo beverage daily for three days.
As reported in the journal Obesity, the participants burned 106 more calories per day when they consumed the test drink instead of the placebo.
This response could help maintain a healthy weight, “considering that an energy imbalance of as few as 50 calories per day has been implicated in long-term weight gain,” points out Mario G. Ferruzzi, assistant professor of food science and nutrition at Purdue University.
Okay, so this fat-burning soup drink helps maintain a healthy weight, maybe. But does it help lose weight? Highly unlikely. Another drink made with green tea and caffeine, Celsius, claims to raise metabolism by 12 percent for up to three hours after consumption.
Studies of both Enviga and Celsius were company sponsored.
