Fast Food Chicago vs. Fast Food Los Angeles

Fast Food ChicagoFast Food Chicago vs. Fast Food Los Angeles = Healthy Fast Food? No, really - have you ever dined on fast food in either of these cities? I love them both – the cities that is, but when it comes to fast food…

A short stroll around a downtown area quickly reveals that there is no shortage of fast food joints in both places. I do not expect fast food to be healthy, but…

On my recent trip to Chicago, I was surprised to read a recent poll that actually claimed that fast food in Chicago is healthier than fast food in Los Angeles.

I do not know why they picked Los Angeles from all other cities. It does not matter. I just would like to know if it could be true.

Over the years, I have had my share of fast food in both cities. I did not run any scientific tests, but I cannot say that I have noticed any difference.

Lo and behold, when I picked up a recent issue of Popular Mechanics magazine, and in it, I read that indeed – when it comes to nutritional content, not all fast food locations are the same.

According to the article, Danish doctors tested chicken nuggets and fries from McDonalds and KFC in 20 different countries. In Denmark the trans fats are restricted by law.

As a result, McNuggets and fries from Denmark contained only 0.33 gram of trans fat, while the same meal from New York contained [shudder] 10g. The clear winner was Hungary - 24g.

Unfortunately, they did not mention either Chicago or Los Angeles. Who knows? Maybe after all, that poll was on to something.

What do you think?

Comparing downtown Chicago and downtown Los Angeles is ridiculous. Los Angeles doesn't have a downtown in the sense that Chicago does. (The area around city hall in Los Angeles is what I presume you're referring to.)

You'd want to use as a comparison food in Westwood, the Wilshire area, Ventura Blvd., Century City, even Hollywood (which is part of the city of Los Angeles) to get a comparison of areas that are functionally equivalent to downtown Chicago.
