Fad Diet: The Grapefruit Diet PlanThe Claim The grapefruit diet plan has been around longer than I care to remember, and early followers claimed that grapefruit contains a fat-burning enzyme. While the enzyme myth is still a myth, the grapefruit diet is still around.

The Grapefruit Solution claims that by incorporating grapefruit into your diet, you can expect to lose weight and lower your cholesterol because grapefruit contains a special compound.

To attain alleged weight loss and cholesterol lowering benefits, you need to get two servings of grapefruit everyday, either in juice, fruit or capsule form.

The compound “reduces your body’s ability to absorb and transport carbohydrates and sugars,� say Daryl L. Thompson and Joseph Ahrens, Ph.D., authors of The Grapefruit Solution, which translates into weight loss.

“We usually see weight loss within two weeks,� says Dr. Ahrens. Right, which fad diet does not see weight loss within weeks?
