The Dukan Diet – special or not? Can The Dukan Diet help you lose weight at all? Can The Dukan Diet help you lose a lot of weight, like, say, can it help you lose 50 pounds or more? The Dukan Diet sounds like a typical fad diet, but it is not really a fad diet. Some people seem to think that this diet is revolutionary. Is it? Contrary to what appears to be a popular belief, The Dukan Diet does not bring anything new to the table, in my opinion.

Essentially, The Dukan Diet is a low-carb diet, which is very similar to Atkins. Just like Atkins, this diet is pretty simple to follow. It consists of multiple stages. The beginning of the diet focuses on weight loss (the first two stages), the purpose on the other two stages is to help you keep the lost weight off. Are there any major differences between this diet and Atkins?

Generally speaking, The Dukan Diet is more liberal. During the third stage, for example, you can eat a pretty good amount of carbohydrates (one serving of fruit, two servings of carbs and two slices of bread). You are also required to walk for at least 20 minutes every day and consume three tablespoons of oat bran daily. Why oat bran and not wheat bran? I have no idea. From the wheat bran vs. oat bran comparison, it is clear that wheat bran is a better option, but hey, I guess that is the way the cookie crumbles in this case.

The Dukan Diet does work and it can help you lose weight, but there is too much hype around it. Should you try this diet if you have failed to lose weight on Atkins in the past? That is a good question. I do not see any harm in trying to lose weight on The Dukan Diet, but perhaps low-carb dieting is not for you. Do not worry, there are plenty of other diets out there that work.
