Coconut Water

Coconut WaterCoconut water - - Is it nature’s Gatorade? Some claim that not all coconut waters are created equal. From some reason, coconut water from Brazil is considered to be the gold standard of all other coconut waters.

I do not know if it is true or not, but I figured, if coconut water from Brazil is so good, that is the one I should try.

Both brands – Westwood-based O.N.E and ZICO coconut waters did not disappoint. Although they both have identical nutritional profile, ZICO comes in natural mango, orange and passion fruit flavors.

Coconut water is biologically pure, full of natural sugars, salts, and vitamins to ward off fatigue…and is the next wave of energy drinks BUT natural! – Mortin Satin, Chief of the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization“, according to O.N.E.

When did coconut water become the next wave of energy drinks? - - that is reaching…nature’s Gatorade? Maybe… By the way, all that “natural” sugar is still sugar – both brands [O.N.E. and ZICO] contain 14g of sugar per serving.

As for potassium, coconut water contains 670 mg of it, which is impressive - add to that the same level of electrolytes found in a human body, only 60 calories per serving, and great taste with less sodium compared to some sports drinks.

I have been using ZICO ($21 amazon.com) to rehydrate after my cardio sessions, and I found it useful as an addition to my post-workout protein shake. ZICO coconut water is available in a variety of flavors.
