CLA: Weight Loss

CLA: Weight LossContinued from Does CLA Work?

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a fatty acid found in dairy products, cheese and meat and it has been – and still is – a very popular weight-loss supplement. Almost every month, there is new information about its amazing ability to prevent weight gain and help lose weight.

But the question is: Do the new studies show that CLA is an effective weight-loss supplement? No, they do not; in fact, one new study sounds borderline pathetic. According to this new study, CLA increases fat burning during, wait for it, sleep.

That’s right; they claim that 4 grams of CLA can help you lose a tad over 2 pounds in six months, which confirms previous findings. I do not know about you, but I cannot get excited about losing 2 pounds in six months.

The bottom line: Contrary to popular claims, CLA and weight loss are not synonymous, far from it. If you need to lose weight, spend your money on good food, not on CLA supplements.

Side note: Some studies do show that when it comes to inflation, a combination of CLA and fish oil may be more potent than fish oil alone.
