CLA Fat Loss
Does CLA aid fat loss? Researchers have known for a while that conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a fatty acid found in dairy foods, beef, and lamb, may aid fat loss a little when taken as a supplement; but to get the equivalent amount from food would be impractical (requiring about nine quarts of low-fat milk a day, for example).
Now, however, scientists at the University of Barcelona in Spain have fortified skim milk with CLA – and found that overweight subjects who drank it for 12 weeks daily experienced a 3 percent reduction in body fat, mostly from the torso.
CLA fat loss These subjects received three grams of CLA daily, without apparent safety issues. No significant fat loss occurred for plain-milk drinkers (or for obese CLA takers, who might have benefited from a longer regimen, the researchers say).
No U.S. dairy producers have reported plans to add CLA to their products, but milk from grass-fed, rather than grain-fed, cows contains it in higher amounts. And I hope they keep it that way! Grass-fed is the way to go, adding CLA to food – even if it helps with fat loss a little – is not. [source: Allure]
