A healthy size 6 in 2005, Carrie Underwood has since lost an estimated 20 pounds (her current weight is 115) and now slips into size 2.

“I’ve actually started giving it a little effort now,” the 5-foot-4 country star, 23, says of her new fit focus.

Idol judge Simon Cowell criticized Underwood’s styling, but not her weight.

Carrie Underwood’s Diet

A devout vegetarian, the Grammy nominee tells Us, “I find that the more health food I have, the more health food I eat.” Her favorites?

Soup, veggie burger and Morning Star vegetarian hot dogs. “She really watches what she eats,” Underwood’s stylist, Trish Townsend, tells Us, adding that the singer does not miss meals.

“She eats pasta, but she just doesn’t overdo it.”

Carrie Underwood’s Workout

“I’m on the road, so I don’t live the typical life where I can go and exercise regularly at the gym,” the Oklahoma native tells Us.

Still, Underwood acts as her own trainer, pushing herself to log time on exercise machines (or sweat to workout DVDs in her hotel room) whenever she can.

“If I can get myself to get up, I’ll go on the cross-training machine or do an outdoor activity like swimming. Any activity is better than nothing!”

Take-away Tip

“I carry protein bars,” Underwood says of preventing junk-food slips. Remove temptation. “It’s important not to have junk food around,” says Underwood.

She bans unhealthy eats from her tour bus, which helps her “not eat junk food after shows, even though you want to so bad!” [source: Us Weekly magazine]
