Calories in Brown Sugar

Continued from Calories in Sugar.

Calories in sugar vs. calories in brown sugar – what is the difference? Some experts claim that calories in brown sugar are different from calories in a regular, white sugar. They also say that calories in brown sugar are easier for our bodies to burn off, but is there any truth to these claims?

The short answer is no – calories in brown sugar are just that, calories. Take sugar detox, for example. If you diet is high in brown sugar, it is still high in sugar (and calories that come from it) – the color of sugar does not change its nutritional qualities.

It is a myth that brown sugar is better for us than regular sugar. It is true, however, that brown sugar contains trace amounts of certain nutrients that are not found in white sugar, but there is nothing special about these nutrients, because they can be easily obtained from a basic diet.

So how many calories are in brown sugar? 1 gram of brown sugar contains 4 calories. Oh, by the way, the claims that brown sugar is natural are also bogus. White sugar is also natural. Just because something is “natural” or “organic” does not automatically mean that it is good for you. Consuming a lot of organic, brown sugar is just as bad as consuming the same amount of white, table sugar.
