When it comes to calories for men, they tend to have an unfair advantage. But why? Why do men burn more calories than women?

Men tend to drop pounds at a faster rate than women because they have more muscle mass, which burns more calories (even when a man and woman watch TV). One study from the University of Vermont found that women burn an average of 16 percent fewer calories each day than men, an amount that adds up over time.

Although a woman will never have the same muscle mass as a man, she can narrow the gender gap with strength-training exercises such as weight lifting and resistance exercises.
