Brush Test

brush testHave you ever heard of the Brush Test? Do you need to take the Brush Test? No, it has nothing to do with brushing your teeth properly, but the Brush Test may save your life, so read on.

Research from Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore) and the National Cancer Institute shows that the incidence of HPV related oral cancer in the U.S. significantly increased from 1973-2004, particularly among younger men.

Oral cancer kills more people than melanoma, and half of those diagnosed with oral cancer survive five years or less. Researchers believe the rate increase may be related to an increase in oral sex. The good news is that there is now a test that can help you prevent this dreaded fate.

BrushTest, manufactured by OralCDx, is an oral cancer screening tool that takes a biopsy of common white or red spots in the mouth. It is performed by a dentist and supported by the American Dental Association. If you think you have been exposed to HPV, contact your dentist for a screening – the earlier, the better. [via]
