Blood Test for Breast Cancer: BC SeraPro
Wouldn’t it be great if breast cancer could be detected with a simple blood test when it’s in its earliest stage, before it could be seen on a mammogram? That reality may not be too far off, thanks to a blood test called BC-SeraPro.
A recent study found that the test, which screens for proteins that indicate the presence of cancerous cells, can accurately detect cancer 80 to 90 percent of the time.
Women with dense breasts – who often have trouble getting an accurate result from a mammogram – may especially benefit from this test, according to the manufacturer. BC-SeraPro is expected to be available at high-risk cancer centers later this year.
