Are Low-Carb Diets Unhealthy?

I do not eat any sugars, flour, corn, peas or potatoes, at all. In addition to this I do not have any flour, white or wheat, no whole grains, what effects if any does this have on my body. I have lost 80 lbs since Jan 2007. Is this unhealthy to me.

Thank you Cindy. [via Ask Questions]

Low-carb diets are not for everyone but it does not mean they are inherently unhealthy. I think it is healthy to avoid entirely or limit intake of sugar and simple carbohydrates, but that is just my opinion.

You have lost 80 pounds, so it seems that your diet is working for you. Having said that, I’m not a doctor and I don’t know your medical history. So, I can’t really answer your question.

I think you should go to your doctor, tell him that you have lost a significant amount of weight and ask for a check up.
