Aluminum Free Deodorant: Lavilin

Aluminum Free Deodorant: LavilinAlthough Matthew McConaughey doesn’t believe in using deodorant, it’s good stuff. All men and women should use it.

Unfortunately, many drugstore brands have two major drawbacks: First, they wear off after a day. And second, they may be linked to Alzheimer’s. Most common brands contain aluminum, which has been found in high concentrations in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients.

Now there’s an aluminum-free alternative deodorant on the market that claims to keep you sweat-and odor-free for up to a week. This new miracle deodorant, called Lavilin, clearly sounds too good to be true.

Our doubts begin with the words “natural deodorant.” Some naturals, like Tom’s of Maine’s popular deodorant, seem to simply mask odor with aromatherapy-appropriate plant oils.

Others use mineral salts to neutralize odor-causing bacteria, but none of these products seem to work well.

Enter Lavilin, a cream deodorant invented for use in the sweatiest place on earth: Russian military barracks. Lavilin works by killing odor-causing bacteria with calendula, arnica, and other natural extracts.

Long popular overseas, it has been frozen in American corporate litigation and is just now surfacing in health-food stores.

So does Lavilin work? Men’s Journal has put it to the test and they are impressed by Lavilin, whose performance improves over time. The application process is a little weird (”like putting toothpaste in your armpits,” one tester said), but the payoff is an odor-free week with just one use [via: Men’s Journal]
