A Side Effect of Bigger Breasts

A Side Effect of Bigger BreastsWith breast implants, bigger isn’t necessarily better.

The larger the implant, the more likely there is to be a reduction in nipple sensation, according to a study of 34 women, ages 19 to 38, in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

The researchers, led by Mark Mofid of UC-San Diego, say that the impaired sensitivity is probably a result of tension on the nerves.

(A previous study found that women with naturally large breasts — 36DD or greater — also had less sensation than smaller-breasted women.)

An unexpected finding was that the effect has nothing to do with incision placement; whether the incision was under the breast or around the areola was immaterial. Women whose implants were 475 cc or smaller were most likely to avoid the problem. [source: Allure]
