A Quick Trick to Improve Your Memory
Moving your eyes horizontally back and forth to improve your memory may sound weird, but British scientists are convinced that it works.
In a recent study, people who did such eye movements for 30 seconds memorized more of the words on a list than people who didn’t move their eyes at all or who moved them vertically, explains Andrew Parker, Ph.D., senior lecturer of psychology & social change at Manchester Metropolitan University.
His explanation for the phenomenon? “Eye movements may increase hemispheric interaction — the communication between the left and right sides of the brain,” he says, “which is crucial for recalling a specific event.” [source: Shape]
