Dean Ornish’s Diet

Dean Ornish's DietI was once asked which foods I like the most. Sure, I have my favorites, but it is an amazing diversity of different food groups that I like the most.

When it comes to nutrition and perhaps the ultimate question – “What should I eat today? – there is a wide range of opinions.

True, I do not always agree with Dean Ornish’s nutritional philosophy, but he has directed clinical research demonstrating that comprehensive lifestyle changes may stop or even reverse the progression of coronary heart disease and prostate cancer.

He is a respected authority in the field of nutrition and it is the diversity of opinions that makes us better informed about food choices. So I thought you might be interested to take a peek at what Dean Ornish and his family eat on a daily basis. (more…)

Maximum Fat Loss

Maximum Fat LossGetting fit via weight training is unique in that one man’s idea of fitness is another man’s version of a couch potato — the standards for fitness aren’t concrete.

Rather, sculpting your body is much akin to art because the final determination is based on a subjective visual impression based on the gym rat’s idea of the perfect man.

When people scoff at your gallon jug of water or sink full of protein-caked shakers, they will be dumbfounded, much like the effect of Samuel L. Jackson’s hit man character Jules paraphrasing Ezekiel 25:17 in the motion picture cult classic “Pulp Fiction.” (more…)

How to Get Skinny: The Thin Girl

How to Get Skinny: The Thin GirlThe Duchess of Windsor once said, “You can never be too rich or too thin,” but it turns out you can indeed be too slender.

During the 2006 fall fashion season, organizers of the annual show in Madrid, Spain, took the unprecedented step of banning models that had a body mass index (BMI) under 18 (18.5 to 24.9 is normal).

“I think it’s exemplary that the fashion industry in Madrid has taken a morally responsible stand,” says Dr. Catherine Steiner-Adair, director of eating disorders at McLean Hospital at Harvard University.

The backlash against thin models is ironic since the fashion industry played a large part in defining the cultural standard of beauty as a tall, willowy, underweight woman. (more…)

Did Tyra Banks Have Liposuction?

Did Tyra Banks Have Liposuction? The drama over Tyra Banks’ weight gain is not over. National Enquirer is reporting that Tyra underwent a liposuction procedure. I am fairly certain that these claims are completely bogus, but here is how the story goes.

“Tyra Banks went on a rampage on her TV talk show last month, telling those who pointed out her obvious weight gain to “kiss my fat a –.”

But the former supermodel – who’s been outspoken about telling women to love their bodies as they are – is hiding a shocking secret: A source close to Tyra claims the 33-year-old underwent liposuction surgery! (more…)
