Primal Defense Probiotic: Does Primal Defense Probiotic Work?

primal defense probioticPrimal Defense Probiotic is a well-known supplement from Garden of Life family of products. It contains a blend of 12 microorganisms, also known as “gut friendly bacteria”, or “probiotics”.

Beneficial bacteria are a cornerstone of any probiotic supplement, but Primal Defense Probiotic claims to be different. It uses a proprietary blend of fermented whole foods that naturally contain multiple strains of probiotics.

A number of Colony Forming Units (CFU) in a probiotic product is an important factor, because it determines its potency. The recommended daily intake ranges from 1 billion to 50 billion units. Unfortunately, this product does not indicate CFU count.

I also did not find a customary “use by” date. It has an expiration date, but other manufactures state a “use by” date. It is an assurance, that a claimed CFU count of viable bacteria will be present in a product up until this date. (more…)

Coral Calcium Supplements: How Does Coral Calcium Work?

coral calcium supplementsWith so many coral calcium supplements on the market, how do you tell which product is the best? Do all coral calcium supplements deliver the same benefits? These are just a few of the questions I have seen relating to coral calcium supplements.

On my recent excursion to a local health food store, I finally had enough time to waste, so I decided to survey a coral calcium scene. It was a good decision and I was not disappointed. The selection was truly impressive and very informative.

By examining one particular brand of coral calcium, I quickly learned that in order to achieve maximum health benefits, I need to use a liquid form of coral calcium, because in this form, coral calcium may help prevent 22 different diseases, including cancer, loss of libido, and obesity. (more…)

BMI Index: BMI Calculator Fails Once Again

bmi indexBody Mass Index (BMI) and BMI Calculators have been the talk of a diet and fitness community for as long as I can remember.

On its website, The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) declares that BMI is a reliable indicator of body fatness, while National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute states that BMI is a measure of body fat.

It is no wonder that so many people continue using BMI to assess their body composition and weight loss progress.

Its use is not limited to the public alone. Health care professionals use BMI as well. In many states, it is one of the mandatory measurements for preschoolers and schoolchildren.

The connection between American obesity crisis and the use of BMI has (more…)

The Fat Smash Diet Review

The Fat Smash DietThe Fat Smash Diet has everything one would expect to find in a diet designed for celebrities to lose weight. Detox, provocative hypothesis and elaborate recipes - are just a few tricks of the trade employed by this diet to help you lose weight. Yet, the question remains – does this diet work?

The author of this book is Dr. Ian Smith; he is a diet and exercise expert on a popular Celebrity Fit Club show. With The Fat Smash Diet firmly holding on Amazon bestsellers list, my curiosity finally picked enough to review it.

The Fat Smash Diet is a 90-day, four-tiered nutritional and exercise program. Your fat smashing experience starts with a “detox” phase. In this unnecessarily restrictive phase, you are only permitted to eat fruits and vegetables, while exercising for 30 minutes, five days a week. (more…)

Sicko: Does Michael Moore Sicken Big Pharma with ‘Sicko’?

sicko movieSicko is a new movie documentary by Michael Moore with its sights set on American health care and pharmaceutical industries. It has not been released yet, but it is generating quite a buzz in a media.

The pharmaceutical industry is already calling Sicko “one-sided and biased“, while others are going a bit further by actually blaming skyrocketing health care costs, and high prescription drug prices on overweight Americans.

According to Mr. Moore, “Sicko is a comedy about 45 million people with no health care in the richest country on earth“, but the movie is still in production, so he is not willing to disclose any more details about it. (more…)
